BMC Helix Discovery Starter Service

20+ CREDITS

This Service configures BMC Helix Discovery to discover datacenter endpoints like Operating System Instances (OSI)*, network or storage devices and configure discovery of one supported cloud provider. This Service also configures and synchronizes discovered data with the BMC Helix Configuration Management Database (CMDB) or ServiceNow CMDB.

What you get:

BMC Helix will perform the following:

  • Run a workshop to provide Customer with an overview of BMC Helix Discovery
  • Present service blueprint workshop
  • Provide Solution Design Document
  • Prepare Construction Document
  • Configure initial user setup in BMC Helix Discovery
  • Configure credentials and perform scan of one of the following cloud providers:
    • Amazon Web Services
    • Microsoft Azure
    • Google Cloud Platform
    • OpenStack
    • IBM Cloud
  • Two-day scan remediation
  • Configure BMC Helix Discovery in two environments: Development and Production
  • Configure out of the box CMDB synchronization with BMC Helix CMDB or ServiceNow CMDB
  • Configure credentials in BMC Helix Discovery
On Premise environmentSaaS environment
  • Perform datacenter scan which may include OSIs (Unix, Windows, vCenter/ESXi), network or storage devices.
  • Install Discovery solution in customer environment

Customer is responsible for:

  • Provisioning servers for BMC Helix On Premise Discovery installation
  • Ensuring required ports are open from BMC Helix On Premise Discovery  to the target devices to be scanned
  • Ensuring discovery credentials have required permissions to perform the scan
  • Conduct functional testing and validate discovered data
  • Perform the necessary configuration at BMC Helix CMDB or ServiceNow CMDB side to enable the Discovery data sync
  • Register BMC Helix Discovery Outposts with the BMC Helix Discovery
  • Install up to three BMC Helix Discovery Outposts* in Customer environment
  • Perform the necessary configuration at BMC Helix CMDB or ServiceNow CMDB side to enable the Discovery data sync

Customer is responsible for:

  • Provisioning servers for BMC Helix Discovery Outposts installation
  • Ensuring HTTPS port 443 is open from BMC Helix Discovery Outposts to BMC Helix Discovery
  • Ensuring required ports are open from BMC Helix Discovery Outposts to the target devices to be scanned
  • Ensuring discovery credentials have required permissions to perform the scan
  • Conduct functional testing and validate discovered data
  • Perform the necessary configuration at BMC Helix CMDB or ServiceNow CMDB side to enable the Discovery data sync

Deliverables: Using BMC Helix standard methodology and templates, the following Deliverables are in scope for this project and will be delivered:

  • Solution Design Document
  • Construction Document

Completion Criteria: BMC Helix will have completed these Consulting Services when the in-scope Consulting Services have been completed and the Deliverables have been delivered to the Customer Project Manager.

  • Customer must have BMC Helix CMDB or ServiceNow CMDB for the CMDB synchronization
  • Customer must have a license for BMC Helix Discovery

Definitions:

  • OSI (Operating System Instance): A host node that represents a physical or virtual computer system including information about its operating system and its physical or virtual hardware.
  • BMC Helix Discovery Outpost: BMC Helix Discovery Outpost is application software that runs on a dedicated Windows server in the Customer data center or on a public cloud.
  • Country-Specific Staffing: Upon Customer’s request and BMC Helix resource availability, BMC Helix will deviate from BMC Helix Standard Delivery model. BMC Helix will work with Customer to understand and address their country-specific staffing requirements. The staffing choice from which country a BMC Helix resource comes from will be mutually agreed to by BMC Helix and Customer.
  • Standard Delivery: A mix of BMC Helix consultants and project managers sourced from various BMC Helix locations.
